⁷ So he named the place ^[a](A)Massah and ^[b](B)Meribah because of the contending of the sons of Israel, and because they ^(C)tested Yahweh, saying, “Is Yahweh among us or not?”

Israel Overwhelms Amalek

⁸ Then ^(D)Amalek came and fought against Israel at ^(E)Rephidim. ⁹ So Moses said to ^(F)Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will take my stand on the top of the hill with ^(G)the staff of God in my hand.”
